The evident and the hidden factors of vitamin D status in older people during COVID-19 pandemic

Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, vitamin D is a target of research and speculation. Lockdown or home isolation reduces sunlight exposition increases risk deficiency. Special attention needed for older people at both severe forms This review aims to highlight association in two instances, direct influence on immune system, indirect risks other deficiency-related diseases, such as musculoskeletal properties persons. We performed narrative review. Whether deficiency associated with poor prognosis, if supplementation may improve post-infection outcomes still unclear. In any case, pandemic generates burden, sequence: isolation, low exposition, deficiency, fragility fractures. Therefore, it time debate how optimize status people, especially during pandemic.
